New OPD Block Opening Ceremony

Dec 8 Banepa: The opening of REMEH's new OPD block took place on December 8th, 2023, at 3 PM, graced by the presence of the Honorable Health and Population Minister, Mr. Mohan Bahadur Basnet. The ceremony acknowledged and honored the contributions of various municipalities, rural municipalities, and partner organizations in alleviating the burden of blindness and vision impairment through collaborative efforts with REMEH. Five long-term working staff, Rabindra Adhikary, Harihar Koirala, Shova Acharya, Bina Thapa, Nabina Manandhar, were felicitated at the program.

Dec 8 Dhulikhel; Prior to the main conference, an evening of cultural festivities and a gala dinner hosted over a hundred delegates.

Dec 9 Dhulikhel: The conference began with registration at 8 AM, followed by a formal session chaired by Prof. Dr. Shashank Koirala.

The session commenced with a welcome speech by REMEH's Chairman, Mr. Madhu Acharya, followed by Mr. Scott Hamilton, the ORS team coordinator.

Dr. Ruchi Shrestha, REMEH's medical director, introduced the institution, succeeded by speeches from Prof. Dr. Shashank Koirala, Prof. Dr. Sagun Joshi, and Prof. Dr. Chet Raj Pant.

The scientific session commenced post-11 AM, featuring presentations by experts. Dr. Ronald C. Gentile discussed 'ocular trauma of the posterior segment – essentials and case study,' while Dr. Sanjay Kedhar covered 'cultured endothelial cells transplantation' and 'special considerations in the management of uveitis glaucoma – a uveitis specialist perspective.'

Dr. Christopher Teng shared insights on 'glaucoma procedures in resource-limited locales,' and Dr. Omar Ozgur presented on 'eyelid defect and trauma repair.'

Following a lunch break after 2 PM, the national speaker’s session commenced. Prof. Dr. Sanjay K. Singh discussed the 'management of bullous keratopathy,' Prof. Dr. Rohit Sainju focused on 'ophthalmologists on thyroid eye disease,' and Prof. Dr. Sagun Joshi elaborated on the efficacy of intravitreal injections in SHAPU management.

Associate Professor Dr. Indira Poudyal addressed the challenges of glaucoma services in Nepal, while Dr. Kishoreraj Pradhan simplified the concept of refractive surgery.

Associate Professor Dr. Kiran Shakya presented an 'easy technique for 3-piece scleral fixation IOL.' The session concluded with Dr. Tejsu Singh Malla's presentation on leadership skills in the ophthalmology field.
