Pokhara University Opens Admissions for M. Optometry 2020 Intake

Background

Pokhara University (PU) announces earlier today the admissions for Master of Optometry (M. Optom) for the intake of 2020. M. Optom is a two-year long course launched for the first time in 2019. So, the upcoming batch will be the second batch. The affiliated colleges are Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology (TIO), Kathmandu and Himalayan Eye Institute (HEI), Pokhara. The academic courses run under semester system i.e. in total there will be 4 semesters. The table below shows the number of intake:

Admission Requirements for M. Optom Pokhara University

       1 .     B. Optom / B.Sc Optom / Bachelor of optometry and vision science/ Doctor of Optometry or equivalent from a recognized university/institution;
       2.     Should have secured at least CGPA of 2.5 out of 4 or 55% in bachelor level
       3.     Registered to Nepal Health Professional Council (NHPC) in A level. No requirement of job/work experience
       4.     Should have appeared in the entrance examination going to be held on respective institutes (TIO and HEI) on 5th March 2020, 1:00 to 3:00PM. and secure rank accordingly.

Important Dates:

1.     Application form distribution starts from 5th February. It can either be printed from the soft copy availed in the PU website or can be collected from one of two institutes (TIO or HEI) as per convenience.
2.     Application deadline: 4th March 2020; 11:59PM
3.     Entrance Exam: 5th March 2020, 1:00 to 3:00PM
4.     Result of Entrance exams: Next day of exam
5.     Deadline for application submission for admission after being selected: 13th march 2020.

Documents to be submitted
·        Completely filled and duly signed application form.
·        Three copies of recent passport size photographs.




·        Self-attested copies of academic documents (mark sheet/transcript, character certificate) of SLC and above, along with migration certificate, Respective council certificate and citizenship certificate.
·        Candidates who fail to submit all the documents by the deadline will not be allowed to attend entrance examination.
·        Applicant must bring the original copies of academic documents while submitting the application form for verification.

Application and examination fee

Applicant should pay NRs. 100 (nonrefundable) for application form and NRs. 3000 (nonrefundable) as an entrance examination fee (Total: NRs 3100) while submitting the application form.
Above mentioned amount should be deposited in the given bank accounts of FACULTY OF HEALTH SCIENCES (PU);

Important:

Exams for paying quota will be conducted in respective hospitals (TIO or HEI) at your choice, but for scholarship scheme you must go to the Pokhara University central office at Lekhnath-6, Dhungepatan. If scholarship exam takes place today then paying exams will take place some other day rendering prospective student to apply for both. You can take exams anywhere TIO or HEI if you want to study in paying. You will have a privilege to choose where to study according to your merits in entrance exams. The total fees for two years will be around Rs. 5, 85,000; whereas for the two students who will be selected for scholarship, it's totally free. Read Pokhara University's eligibility guidelines before you apply for the scholarship. For example, if you have completed your bachelor's degree three years ago, then you are disqualified to apply i.e. the study gap should not exceed 3 years.
