Good evening to all,
A friend in need is a friend indeed. By the fluke of the fate, we all are lined up for a common aim of being the Master of Optometry under the roof of TIO. There will be, as is obvious, ups and downs. Our roads will be topsy-turvy. We will move on united, helping each other and understanding each other. That should be our compassion.
I hope you all are reading this. First of all, it’s a great pleasure for me to have you guys as my batch-mate, yeah, the very first batch of Nepal studying Masters of Optometry.
To tell you the truth, I am quite elated to have joined the course as I am sure it would be worth it the moment we will fling the convocation hat high up in adventurous city of Pokhara after two years. (Back-paper lagena bhane as Mr. Bhagirath Baniya said). Sameer and Sandeep seem to have a mixed feeling about joining here, but that’s completely normal. First because, we are sacrificing a great deal: job and a blooming heck of two long years. Second is the rampant stereotype of TIO people and officials’ perceiving behavior towards optometry profession as a whole. In my opinion: we don’t expect others to treat us good, actually we should not. Come on guys, it’s the first time Nepal is witnessing the start of M. Optom. We are the trail-blazer as a first batch. When we keep on doing well, history will prove that. Hard work will pay, provided we give value to our works. We can’t go around pleasing all the people. We do our work, properly is all. (haitt, aba guff chhadau haita!!)
The purpose of writing this is giving certain insights upon the orientation program to those who were unable to attend today. Having said that, I do not mean other may discontinue reading. It will of course refresh their mind too. LOL
The formal program was emceed by Chandra sir (our vice principal). After the introduction program, opening speech was offered by Purushottam dai as a welcome vote. Dr. Srijana Adhikari gave a speech on general information followed by Dr Rohit Sainju’s speech that briefed the organogram of the M.Optom program in which this academic program is crowned by Dr Govinda Poudel sir as a chairperson of Subject Committee Pokhara University, with subsequent position of academic coordinator Dr Srijana Adhikari, followed by vice principal Chandra sir and Krishna Gopal Shrestha sir. It was somewhat unsatisfactory as there was no mention of our faculties although everybody knows who they are. It is a universal truth that students feel proud and secure when their teachers are valued and recognized within the community. Ummm…let it be. Financial officer and personal relation officer also spoke about our role in the hospital as a health care provider. And a group photo, of course. Also, our respected Govinda sir took an opportunity to speak in a concluding remark. We were seated in the cushioned reclining chairs at the front with other dignitaries standing at the back.
Towards the end of the program, Gyan Bahadur Basnet, with his B. Optom students of HEI (Pokhara University) rushed in to the hall, all perspiring and wearing rato tika. They were on Nepal tour (LOL)…I mean they are making trips to all eye hospital where B. Optom program is running in order to have a gross idea to compare themselves to others. There was second round of introduction program. Then they left for OPD tour. Krishna Gopal sir debriefed us about Nepal eye program through over a dozen slides.
Shortly, we were also on a OPD tour. There were many rooms and staffs, literally none of them are in my memory. It was dizzying crowd all around and the day was quite hot. Jeepers Creepers!! It, finally, ended with us having seated at the canteen table eating gratis meal. PS: don’t sit on the dining table on the same side!!!
What we had: 30 rupees special milk tea (bahira ko bhanda mitho thiyo so Rs30 rakheko). I had two.
Rs.60 parne cookies
Rs. 130 parne plane rice tarkari.
So in total we had free eatables worth Rs.890.
Aba Rs. 209860 uthauna baki!!
(just a Joke hai hai)
Few highlights:
-three months gone, only three more months to complete a semester
-In TIO??? Evidence based practice, not experience based practice
-Biostat, Research methodology and ocular pharmacology ko class hunchha...aru afaile padhne
-You should have a research paper finalized before you appear for the first semester-end examination
Oh yeah! Guys were talking about sharing ACTIVE phone number and email. I have saved all. Mine is also in the table below.
