Bidya Bhattarai Didn't write the poem. Period. Let me explain.
This one is about a video I made a few days back. It was audio poetry that portrays the emotional state of Bidya Bhattarai—the wife of Rabindra Adhikary, in the aftermath of the demise of the late culture, tourism, and civil aviation minister. (You can click here if you fancy watching it or you can simply watch it from below)
Being contextual, the video caught a lot of attention. It was viral. Many YouTube channels re-uploaded my video as it was. Few fraudulent channels re-uploaded after cleverly editing it. By reading the title only one can surmise that the poem was written and recited by the wife of late Rabindra Adhikari. But the truth was, it was authored by myself and was recited by not-late Rabindra Adhikari's wife-- Sapana Koirala.
First and foremost in the description I clearly mentioned in the disclaimer , after my friend Rajendra advised, that the poem was not from Bidya, and blah blah. Nobody bothered to read the description. They just blindly and wildly downloaded it, uploaded it—with or without editing and avoiding the information that was needed. Nobody credited the original source of the video. Many Facebook pages also uploaded my video gaining more than half a million views. Mushrooming number of online pages and news portal also followed the same haphazard race of copying the poem and putting it into their sites with sensational headlines as if it was originally from Bidya Bhattarai. Admittedly, they accumulated bucks of money with the content they got for free.

One friend went to his aunt’s home. They started to talk about the current situation of the country. The aunt said that she watched the poem by Mr. Adhikari’s wife. My friend told her it was not from that Adhikari’s wife it was from my friend who is also Rabindra Adhikari. She didn’t believe and started arguing. Eventually, he had to contact me to confirm it. I said it was me who wrote it for the first time. She hung up, believing with reluctance.
One of my uncles messaged me—oh I knew how you create your videos. I asked 'how?' You just recite the poems that are already in the paper or online sites. I denied and he threw me one link where was written my poem by somebody else. At first, I was confused if the poem was really written by Mrs. Bidya. Now, nobody would believe that I wrote that poem. Only the date of publishing would prove it, but we are in a ‘viral era’, that means we don’t really look for the authenticity of the source, and we don’t look for the dates or writers. By now, it got nearly established that Bidya wrote a poem so quickly after she heard the news of his hubby’s death. In common sense, who would be so very bright and ready to create a literary piece in the bereavement of his/her spouse’s loss? But that does not count at all. Someone told she did. We never gave a second thought on how she could.
There are tons of people who are actively involved in the social media business. They rely on the creation of others—they replicate the product and use it to earn money. These hungry wolves just lurk in the darkness waiting for a good opportunity. When I tried to claim my copyright then YouTube replies with this message:
They do it so quickly and cleverly that we can’t even claim the copyright or file a complaint. They are the professional frauds who manipulate the content and make a living by others artworks. It is nothing but intellectual theft.
