The nerd behind the glasses

No dream is too big for you. This is how the introduction video of Shrinkhala Khatiwada concludes. The video by Abin Bhochhibhoya had already surpassed one million views in the third day of its upload in YouTube. The video carries so powerful message that, at times, my heart stopped pumping blood while I watched for the first time.

Contestants from 121 countries now are in Sanya, China, for world’s biggest beauty pageant Miss World 2018. Our very own Shrinkhala Khatiwada is also there. Before telling ‘Let’s support her’ I have few words to say.

There were plenty of beauty pageants happening in the past which I did a damn care. I don’t know why no beauty in the past afforded to attract my attention. There used to be the newspaper headlines with the big name of Miss Nepal winner, color picture with a crowned smile by the side. That name goes on becoming smaller and smaller in the newspapers as the days pass by. The face gradually fades away from the memory. Why? Because they may think it’s the zenith of their career. Contrariwise, their career ends with the crown. “This—is—it—I—have—nailed—it” mentality stops their steps to move forward. Truth be told, the crown should not be the destination. It should rather be a tool to accelerate you to reach to the destination.

I love Shrinkhala because she has a cause and she is using the fame to nurture the cause. She has discovered the true being in herself that wants ‘to serve’ and ‘to change’ others in a positive way. And, to my belief, that discovery is what renders her bring the Miss World 2018 award back home.

I was oblivious of the miss world contest until this time now. This time around there is Shrinkhala who is changing the whole scenario of participating in miss world pageant for Nepal. Shrinkhala translates to chain and she is breaking the chain of simply going-seeing-and-coming-empty-handed trends from the beauty fest. What she is doing for Chepang settlements in Kailash village of Makwanpur is just the first of the series. With the glasses removed, we can see the passion in her eyes that says Shrinkhala is all about giving. She has engineered a health clinic there. She wants to improve health, education, sanitation everything. She is going to upgrade the overall quality of life of Chepang.

Now from beyond a pair of nerdy glasses comes a trail-blazer who has already started a walk to bring about the big social change less expected from a 22 year old lady. With the crown on her head she can change the lives of hundreds of thousands. Without it, it will be harder to catch up the momentum. So, let’s be a part of that change that is about to come. The change will impact the tenth of our generations to come. This will ease her to clinch the multimedia award which can lead her directly to semi-finals. This isn’t everything but something is better than nothing. Let’s not just wait for December 8 to come, do at least a little thing that may change the outcome of Miss World contest that eventually can change our nation too. 

Great person changes everything they come across. Shrinkhala changed Sisan Baniya who used to make videos for his YouTube channel. He is now initiating the charity collections for Chepang Community. From a YouTuber Sisan is becoming social worker. Sisan went to the Chepang community for the BWAP video works of Shrinkhala. When he inserted ft. Shrinkhala Khatiwada in one of his videos on Chepang, the video was on YouTube trending list. In all his YouTube career the video has got topmost views. Shrinkhala changed his channel too to reach more audience. Abin Bhochhibhoya was always an underrated video maker. Shrinkhala took him for her intro video and that too changed Abin. Now look how his career as a YouTuber and video-maker has changed. He has become a celebrity overnight and his subscribers crossed 25 thousands. 

These are the only two persons I talked that she has changed. I am now talking about the whole nation that she is going to impact upon.
