I hate sci-fi movies, and I don’t
like space movies either. The seventh Hollywood attempt in the making of Star
Wars franchise was released on 18th December, 2015 and I didn’t have
any plans to watch it. I didn’t know my plan would take a bizarre turn to watch and
get it over with after so much I saw and read about it.
I did know that there were other previous franchises of the movie, but never knew there were six of them. Wow, six? Then it must be something; after all, sequels are made if they are liked by the audiences, and they fetch fans galore and yield a good size wallet out of them. Having not watched a single one of the Star Wars, seventh one would be something to give it a try—and quite recently there are none movie so enticing to add to my watch list since The Martian.
This movie smashes all movies’ records in history reaching $1bn mark so rapidly—12 days that is—that I am enforced to have a second thought about. In terms of financial rewards, it topped Jurassic World’s records placing itself to 2015’s no.1 movie at home. Globally, till now the movie is no.8 movie of all time. The Force Awakens is highest grossing Star Wars movies. Even so, it's marching to surpass Skyfall records of all time money grossing movie all over UK. Records after records, this is also the first Star Wars movie I have ever watched.
Movie making is going through such a change, and these sorts of films are important indicators where the Hollywood is going towards. I have watched Avatar, Titanic, Jurassic World, The Avengers and Furious 7. And forget anything; I want to witness another Hollywood milestone –Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Early news about a Star Wars fan Daniel Fleetwood, 32 and terminally ill, requesting to watch The Force Awakens before he died made me curious how far the fandom can go. His last wish was fulfilled by director JJ Abrams by special unedited screening of the movie in aficionado’s home. And there is spooky story of Steve Sansweet in the build-up of museum of the Star Wars memorabilia. He even made Guinness records for largest collection of Star Wars accouterments.
However maybe the movie, hope those who have not watched and who are like me—not willing to stand aloof from the Hollywood history-turning phenomenal motion picture— would watch not for the sake of watching; and hope god forestalls that, nobody would have to go buy café latte (well, it was thrice throughout!) to pour your mouth to hedge intermittent involuntary shut-eye.
